Hospital layette for childbirth

Choosing a hospital is one of the most important decisions during pregnancy. In Poznań and the entire Greater Poland region, the number one remains the Gynecological and Obstetric Clinical Hospital at ul. Polna 33 — the largest and most specialized center in the region, operating at the 3rd reference level. This means the highest level of care for the mother and newborn, also in situations requiring immediate intervention.

The hospital bag should be packed approx. 3–4 weeks before the due date. Labor can be unpredictable, and calmness and readiness facilitate later organization.

For Mom

  • ID card and pregnancy card (Karta ciąży)
  • test results (blood type, GBS, HBs, morphology, glucose)
  • 2–3 nursing nightgowns
  • bathrobe, shower slides, and slippers
  • cosmetics and hygiene products

  • still water (preferably with a mouthpiece)
  • towels washed at high temperature
  • optional: breast pump and own cutlery

💡 Remember to remove nail polish or gel polish – this makes it easier to monitor vital functions.

  • wet wipes
  • clothes for the stay and for discharge
  • skin care cream

For the Accompanying Person

  • comfortable clothes and shoes
  • water and food
  • phone, charger, power bank
  • access to lockers near the delivery rooms

Access and Parking at the Hospital

The hospital on Polna is located on the border of two paid parking zones:

  • Red zone (more expensive) — area: Bukowska, Polna, Dąbrowskiego
  • Blue zone (cheaper) — direction of ul. Przybyszewskiego

The hospital does not have its own parking for patients. Entry through the gate is possible only to drop off the pregnant woman directly at the Admission Room (entrance from ul. Jackowskiego).

Since labor can take many hours, it is best to: ✔ use payment apps, ✔ leave the car in a safe place, ✔ or choose accommodation with free parking.

Visiting Rules – Key Information

The hospital cares for the safety of patients and newborns, so clear rules apply:

  • visits take place mainly in the afternoons,
  • only one accompanying person can stay in the delivery and postpartum rooms,
  • sick persons or those with symptoms of infection are not admitted,
  • visitors must disinfect their hands and maintain silence,
  • the room must be vacated during medical rounds.

Persons violating the regulations or under the influence of alcohol may be asked to leave the hospital.

Admission to Labor – What Does the Procedure Look Like?

When symptoms of labor occur, report to the Admission Room (Izba Przyjęć). Prepare:

  • identity document,
  • pregnancy card,
  • test results,
  • birth plan (optional).

👉 Birth at Polna takes place without a referral, also for uninsured persons (provided they have Polish citizenship and residence in Poland).

Discharge of Mom and Newborn

If everything proceeds correctly, discharge occurs between the 3rd and 5th day.

The person picking up reports to the entrance from ul. Jackowskiego (discharge point). Mom and child receive medical documentation.

🚗 A car seat is mandatory — without it, the newborn cannot leave the hospital.

Where Can Dad Stay During Labor?

Labor can take many hours, or even days. If you live outside Poznań, a good solution is accommodation close to the hospital — so as to be always "at hand", but also to have the opportunity to rest.
